Music Dept News

We’ve got a lot going on these days in the music department….

New Section Leaders Hired

We have auditioned and hired four section leaders for the choir:
  • Lauren Dellinger, our soprano section leader, is an undergraduate at Georgia State, where she studies voice. She is currently working in the opera department and will be performing in a role in November.
  • Tatyana Brown, our mezzo-soprano/alto section leader, is a first-year sophomore at Georgia State, having transferred from Wesleyan College in Macon. She studies voice, is interested in Women’s Studies, and is thinking about pursuing a career in drama.
  • Daniel Summers, Jr., our tenor section leader, is a resident of College Park. Daniel sings in the select choir in the Atlanta Gay Men's Chorus and is the Marketing Director for The Center For Puppetry Arts.
  • Michael Jack, our bass section leader, is a senior voice major at Morehouse College. He studies with Dr. UzzIe Brown.
Please extend a warm welcome to our new student-singers!

Taize This Month

Because of a schedule conflict with our Holy Comforter outreach and that our musicians deserved a week of rest after their terrific performance in the Rutter Requiem, the Taize service this month has been cancelled. Next month, the bell group and team of instrumentalists will provide contemplative music to augment the prayers and readings and the beautiful candle-lit setting provided by Keith Huffstetter.

Bell Demo in Riverdale

Our singer-ringers have been invited to participate in a musicale being held at Christ Our Hope Lutheran Church in Riverdale. The event, which combines entertainment with BBQ, is designed to help raise money for the COH music program. Our ensemble will demonstrate all the different techniques of bell-ringing we have explored over the year.

Rutter Requiem

The Rutter Requiem is currently being rehearsed by a team of singers and is showing great promise. Our collaborative partners are also working hard. We look forward to combining forces for our Requiem Service on November 1st.

Gregorian Chant Requiem

Believe it or not, a second group of singers are exploring the ancient music of the church with the choir of The Church Of Our Saviour in the VA-HI area. We meet weekly on Sunday afternoons to study the gregrorian chants traditionally sung as part of the requiem mass. The requiem service for All Souls Day will be held on November 2nd at COOS.
