Chili Cook-Off

Our annual Fall Festival and Blessing of the Animals will be Oct 20th. This year we are excited to announce that we are adding a Chili Cook-Off contest. What goes better with a beautiful fall day than a great cup of chili. We want to sample St. John's best, as well as that of our community, and offer those with a prize winning recipe the chance to make it "Blue Ribbon Winning Chili".

We know some in our congregation have chili recipes they are proud of and we would love to have your participation. We have opened the contest up to College Park's finest and get a little of the competitive spirit going between our College Park firefighters and College Park police officers, as well as the College Park Woman's Club and the HCPNA. Below you will find a little more info:

Chili Cook-off Rules:

Chili cannot be store bought or from a restaurant, but it can have store bought ingredients that it starts out with (like canned/processed tomatoes, canned seasoned beans, chili powders, etc.).
Only the Chili will be judged (without toppings, such as cheese, sour cream, peppers),

To register for the Chili Cook-off, send an email with “Chili Cook-off” as the subject line and address to ptroberts@comcast.net. Include the entrants name, organization represented if applicable (St. John's, CP Woman's Club, HCPNA etc), and type of chili (beef, chicken, vegetarian etc). All entries must be received by Oct. 10th. Slot are limited so register early to secure yours.

Bring your pre-cooked homemade chili in a crock pot (electricity will be provided) to St. John's horseshoe parking lot by 11A on Oct 20th. Judging will take place at 11:30A.

JUDGING CRITERIA AND SCORING

A single score takes into consideration the five criteria for scoring chili:  Aroma, Consistency, Color, Taste, Aftertaste  Each cup of chili will be scored on its own merits with a whole number from 0 to 10, 10 being the highest.  First, Second and Third place winners will be announced, with local restaurant prizes awarded.  After the judging, St. John's will sell the chili to the public.

We are excited about this fun addition to our Fall Festival and look forward to tasting some great chili and enjoying a beautiful fall day together.
