Church
Special Events
Eagle Notes DeadlineIf you would like to submit an article or information to be published in the Eagle Notes, all information must be in the church office no later than November18 for December publication. Please have information on diskette or e-mail to: From the Priest Associate Dear Friends in Christ, What a wonderful crew we have working with the Liberian family that has come into our midst. We had little time to prepare for them but the good Lord has opened doors including helping us find and equip a home for them on Sylvan Road. The next step will be taking care of the “mechanics”, getting the children in school, getting Social Security numbers, Medicaid cards, and finding a job for the father. It will take lots of loving care to acclimatize them to life in Atlanta and I trust many of you will take time to visit, offer transportation and the like. Some dates to get on your calendars for November. We serve dinner at Holy Comforter on November 10. It takes all available hands to prepare the meal, take it down there, and serve it up. November 14 is our “Newcomers Dessert” at the Dixon’s, and at the morning service that day we will install our chapter of the Daughters of the King. The church office will be closed November 24—26 in celebration of Thanksgiving. The members of the Parish Life committee have a special plea to all of us at St. John’s. Please sign up to bring snacks for the coffee hour after the 10:30 service, and when you come to Second Sunday Brunch, bring a dish if you plan to eat. We will not have our usual Second Sunday Brunch on November 14 since all are invited to the Newcomers Dessert that evening. But on December 14th we will have Brunch and the Annual Meeting. Many thanks for your help in the tasks that have been put before us. Faithfully, Ruth Church Work Day A church work day is scheduled for Saturday, November 20th. We will meet at the church for a lite breakfast at 8:30, then get busy cleaning, repairing, and sprucing up the church building and grounds for the holidays. DYC at Camp Mikell Attention all youth! Finance Update As of September 30, 2004 Actual: 16,892.00 Budget: 16,546.50 YTD Actual: 148,583.87 Expeditions By Ruth Healy Our trip to the Cathedral was a great success! I don’t want to think of how much we spent at that beautiful gift shop. And we were given a detailed tour of the new facilities as well as the stain glass windows in the nave. Keith introduced us to the organ too. There have been requests to have more expeditions to places in the area. We welcome any suggestions. The new exhibit at the High Museum would be a possibility if there is interest. Please let us know if you would like to take part in future expeditions by calling the church office.
