A Message from Pere Bruno - April 03, 2004

Dear friends,
A trip to Haiti specially to the North East is always for me a therapy. Whenever I come back from my country I feel better emotionally, physically and spiritually. My faith becomes stronger and I am more determined to pursue my aim. I understand much better my purpose in life which is serving with love my fellowmen and specially my Haitian brothers and sisters. Two hours ago I arrived at my home in Santo Domingo after a six day journey in Haiti. This trip will leave its fingerprints on my life for ever.

I left Santo Domingo with a big load of oil, tomato paste, spaghetti, red herring and a thousand small bags. In Cap-HaitienI completed my shopping list by adding rice and beans because those items were cheaper there. A team of 12 volunteers spent the whole Wednesday afternoon filling the bags with food to be distributed the next day. We prepared that night 500 bags for the people. The next morning around 10 AM we started the distribution. The same team joined by others gave away the bags to those who came. We used the St Barthelemy campus as the first center of distribution.

Thursday afternoon and evening we prepared another 500 bags of food for two other places in the North East called Phaeton and Paulette. On Friday morning I was with my team organizing the distribution. In those two places, leaders of the community had previously prepared the ground work. The work was a little bit easy on my team. Those two communities are the poorest in the whole area. Homeless, old people, single mothers, the very poor came out.  We have done the best we could so most of the families could receive something.

The fourth place we covered is Limonade. I did participate personally in the distribution but I gave the person in charge of the Episcopal School a girl called" Ilphida Dele " enough food to reach at least 200 families.

In total we have covered 1200 families ( not individuals). The people have blessed us. I think the blessings we received are extended to you who have helped us with your generous contribution. Your generosity has made that first food distribution possible.  With your contribution we have fed the hungry. The people are really in great needs. A whole crow was behind the gates of the school expecting something after the distribution.  Up to last night I have received visits from many others who were not present at the distribution on Thursday.
Unfortunately I could not satisfy everyone. I promised them that I will come back with more food in the next three or four weeks. With God's help we will do it.

Once again I want to thank all of you for your effort to pass on the word about the ministry and for your prayers and contribution to that ministry. The Lord will bless you always as you help His brothers.

I myself feel very happy that I can be part of such a great mission: a mission of love and solidarity with my Haitian brothers and sisters. As I was distributing the food I was thinking about "the feeding of the five thousand". I thought it was the implication of the example of Jesus who ordered us to feed the hungry. We can repeat the miracle. As a matter of fact we did it.

I took lot of pictures that I will share with you. May you have a great Palm Sunday.

Yours always,

Pere Bruno
