If you would like to be part of a team that goes with the rector on these Saturdays, please call the church. We especially need musicians, people who will pray, and people who will greet the residents. Thanks!
A NEW PHOTO DIRECTORY IS COMING On August 16, 17, & 18, First Choice Resources, Inc., will be taking our pictures for a new photo directory. Sign up sheets are in Bott Hall, or you can call the church to make an appointment. You can review pictures the same day; they make great Christmas presents, and we want to see your smiling face in our photo directory! Our photo directory is an important tool for evangelism because it helps newcomers (and sometimes long time members!) get to know the parish. Please, please, please plan to participate. If you have questions, call Will Manders at (404) 768-5519.
VOLUNTEER RECOGNITION Did you ever wonder who painstakingly prepares the grocery bags which we use to remind us as to what items we need to bring for Family Life Ministries each month? It is none other than Rick Reeves who staples the requests to the bags willingly and with a smile. The Outreach Committee and the congregation extend our heartfelt thanks for this labor of love.
PARISH TRIP TO THE HIGH MUSEUM The Parish Life Commission has made plans for us to attend the Michelangelo exhibit at the High Museum. After church on August 26th, those who are interested in attending will meet in the horseshoe parking lot at 1:00 and carpool to the High Museum. Tickets will be $4.00 We will have a box lunch in Bott Hall before we leave for the museum. Ernie Radaker and Jane Escalera are our contact persons for this outing and will make details available to us as the date grows nearer. Mark your calendars now for this Parish Life outing.
JAMESON SERVES AS ACOLYTE AT BISHOP’S ORDINATION Jameson Chamlee made our youth proud by serving as a torch bearer in the ordination of Bishop Alexander. Jameson is the acolyte captain for the 8:00 service at St. John’s. Thanks for the good work!

A LETTER FROM OUR NEW BISHOP July 12, 2001 To: The Clergy and People of the Diocese of Atlanta Grace to you and peace in Jesus Christ our Lord! What a wonderful day we had together on July 7 at St. Philip’s Cathedral. The great liturgy of Episcopal Ordination was a splendid celebration of our life together in the Diocese of Atlanta. Countless people from across our church have said to me that one could really feel the Spirit’s presence. It was a day of "high delight" for me and for my family. I shall be expressing thanks to many people across the diocese for months to come. Here, allow me to record particular gratitude to the Rector and People of St. Martin in the Fields Parish for the gracious reception and dinner on Friday evening for visiting bishops and out-of-town guests. It was Georgia hospitality at its finest And hearty thanks to the Dean and People of the Cathedral of Saint Philip, particularly the worship and music staff, for the extraordinary and flawless way they prepared the liturgy and music, managed hundreds of people, and shaped a grand offering of divine worship that continues to inspire. The flowers provided by several parishes and the splendid reception by the Episcopal Church Women were without equal. The Reverend Alicia Schuster-Weltner was the chair of the Transition Committee who, with gentleness and grace, coordinated the entire event and always made sure the left hand knew what the right hand was doing. We are all in her debt and to her a special word of thanks.
In my first week as your Bishop, I am pleased to announce the appointment of The Very Reverend Richard H. Callaway as Canon to the Ordinary, effective August 15, 2001. Richard is well known to all of you as a priest of the diocese for ten years, having previously served in the Diocese of North Carolina. I have known him for twenty years and in that time we have shared many moments of mutual support, hours of common prayer, and have leaned on one another in times of despair and delight. Richard’s service to and knowledge of the diocese will be an asset to me, particularly in the early years of my episcopate. In addition to working alongside of me in the administration of the diocese, I have asked Richard to be the staff liaison for all our efforts at growing the church in the Diocese of Atlanta- evangelical outreach, new congregations and church starts, and revitalizing and redeveloping ministries already begun. In addition to being Canon to the Ordinary, you might think of Richard as our point person for The Great Commission. I am leased and honored that Richard is willing to take up this work. Please join me in greeting him and encourage him in his new work among us. God’s richest blessing be upon you! My heart is full of joy and delight. May it be so among you all.
Faithfully, in Christ, The Right Reverend J. Neil Alexander Bishop of Atlanta
